Robotics in Flight LLC, founded by David Haessig and Michael Vogas, has developed a new US-made flight controller and autopilot. The control electronics assembly is called the R-PiLot. The software is the Python Pilot. Both are contained on a quadcopter — the PiQuadTM — built upon the Raspberry Pi and running Linux. On the Raspberry Pi the functions needed for controlled flight are realized – guidance, navigation, control, sensor data reception, motor command transmission, and a pilot interface. The Pi is running Linux and the Python Pilot is coded in Python. The code is open source and available on this site. Users have full access to the source code, to the interfaces to all functions contained therein, to the hardware interfaces on the Raspberry Pi, and to the features provided by the Linux OS.
